RAM Truck Sales Surpass Chevrolet in 2019

Despite their excellent quality, muscular design, and phenomenal performance, RAM trucks have long been third-place runners in the pickup truck category. That all changed in 2019 though, where a more attractive exterior, additional interior features, and enhanced performance combined to put RAM trucks above Chevrolet for the first time in a generation.

Winning By a Mile

While any appreciable gain would have been noteworthy, the thrashing that the lineup of new RAM trucks put on the Chevrolet models is truly astonishing. By selling 58,904 more trucks than Chevrolet, RAM took a decisive second place in the new truck game, and it’s not likely to slow down anytime soon.

In terms of numbers, RAM sold a total of 633,694 pickup trucks in 2019, marking an impressive 18 percent increase over 2018. Compared to Chevrolet, which decreased by two percent between 2018 and 2019, RAM’s pickup was especially impressive. These numbers cover both light and heavy duty pickup trucks like the RAM 1500, 2500, and 3500 models.

Why Such a Difference?

Much of the difference between the new RAM lineup and the latest Chevrolet trucks is down to performance and looks. The new styling of the Chevy Silverado caught many Madison, AL drivers off guard, and many felt it was too bloated and bulging to make a good visual impression. RAM models meanwhile, leaned hard into their muscle-car heritage and chose aggressive designs that highlighted not only the impressive performance, but the sheer strength of the new RAM lineup. Modern performance enhancements like the eTorque hybrid system that boosted low-end torque with an electric motor served to make the RAM models more attractive in 2019. By boosting acceleration under load without spending extra fuel, RAM drivers were able to tow and haul with less economy loss, which is especially great if you run a company that relies on your pickup truck.
